Cost: $15.00 for members; $25.00 for non-members; $10.00 for full-time students. If you do not want to eat but want to hear the speaker, the cost is $10.

Topic: “The Prevalence of Fake News Today, Why Media Outlets are Putting out Fake News and Why Everyone Believes it”
This month’s guest speaker will be Bob Heist, executive editor of the Northwest Florida Daily News, the Walton Sun, the Crestview News Bulletin and the Santa Rosa Press Gazette.
With more than 30 years’ experience in the journalism industry, Heist will speak on the prevalence of fake news today, why media outlets are putting out fake news and why everyone believes it.
Heist came to our area on Sept. 28 from Mountain Home, Arkansas, where he was managing editor and head of operations for The Baxter Bulletin. During his time in Arkansas, his newsroom received numerous writing awards. He increased online readership and created media partnerships with local radio stations. His previous experience also includes a stint as the sports editor at the Pensacola News Journal.
Heist graduated from California State College in California, Pennsylvania, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1981. He and his wife, Cathy, have three grown children.
Join ECPRO at Chapala’s Mexican Restaurant, 67 Eglin Pkwy. NE, Fort Walton Beach, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Lunch is $15 for members, $25 for non-members and $10 for students.
